I’m Vanessa, a full-time professional artist based in Harrow, London. I have exhibited my work at the Brick Lane Gallery, Art Barn, Old Rectory in Warwickshire and the Bear Steps Gallery in Shrewsbury.
My painting is rooted in traditional representation, but I also enjoy experimenting with the possibilities of paint and the tools that I use. In my practice I depict a range of subjects but am particularly drawn to creating landscapes of places which are meaningful to me. In my childhood I lived in the Lake District. Those early experiences of walking in the fells with my family and dog have left a long lasting impression on me. Whether applying layers of thick oil paint to the canvas with a palette knife, or gentle washes of watercolour, I strive to represent the vigorous and lively ‘spirit’ of the landscape in front of me.
In my career I have trained at London Fine Art Studios and Leith School of Art, and most recently at The Institute of Education, UCL where I gained my PGCE to become a Teacher of Art in 2017.
Since going full-time as an artist in 2022, I have loved challenging myself by exploring a range of different media and technical approaches within my practice. I hope to always keep this experimentation at the core of my work.
